Welcome to Recipes By Hazel
Where every dish comes with a story and a little piece of my heart.
The Long Road Here
Life took me down a winding path. I went to college thinking I'd do something "practical" with my life. Spent years in jobs that paid the bills but left my soul feeling a little empty. I'd come home exhausted, order takeout, and wonder when cooking had stopped being joyful and started feeling like just another chore.
Then I got married, and everything changed.
Suddenly, cooking wasn't just about feeding myself. It was about creating moments together. My love for food came rushing back the first time I cooked dinner for my husband. Watching him taste something I'd made with my own hands, seeing his face light up, that feeling brought me right back to my grandmother's kitchen.
One rainy Tuesday, I found my grandmother's old recipe box tucked away in a closet. Those faded index cards, stained with butter and written in her looping handwriting, brought everything rushing back. The smells. The laughter. The feeling of belonging somewhere.
I made her apple crumble that night. My husband and I stood in our kitchen, and as that familiar smell filled our home, I knew I'd found my way back to what mattered most.

Why I Started Recipes By Hazel
I'll never forget the first time I cooked in our kitchen as a married woman. I wanted to make something special for my husband, something that would fill our new home with warmth and love. I was nervous, excited, my hands shaking a little as I chopped vegetables and stirred pots.
When dinner was ready and we sat down together, he took that first bite and smiled. Not just a polite smile, but a real one. The kind that reaches your eyes. "This is incredible," he said. "You need to share this with people."
At first, I laughed it off. But he kept encouraging me. Every time I tried a new recipe, every time friends came over and asked for my recipes, he'd say, "See? You should really do something with this."
So I did.
Recipes By Hazel started in that kitchen, born from those early days of marriage when I was learning to cook not just for myself, but for the life we were building together. What began as me sharing a few recipes with friends has grown into something bigger—a place where I share not just what to cook, but the love and memories that make food matter. Because food isn't just fuel. It's how we celebrate, how we comfort, how we show up for the people we love.

- Recipes that feel like home – From my grandmother's classics to my own weeknight discoveries, everything here is tested in my real kitchen with real ingredients you can actually find at the grocery store.
- Honest stories – The good, the burned, the "I accidentally used salt instead of sugar" disasters. Because cooking is messy and human and that's exactly what makes it beautiful.
- No-judgment cooking – Whether you're a total beginner or you've been cooking for decades, you're welcome here. Used jarred garlic? Perfect. Substituted ingredients because that's what you had? Even better. Made it your own way? That's exactly what you should do.
- Real talk about real life – Quick weeknight dinners for when you're exhausted. Comfort food for hard days. Special recipes for celebrations. All of it honest, achievable, and made with love.
My Cooking Philosophy
I believe the best recipes are the ones you'll actually make. The ones that don't require seventeen specialty ingredients or three days of prep time. The ones that make your house smell amazing and bring people to the table.
I believe in tasting as you go, in adjusting seasonings to your preference, in making substitutions when you need to. Recipes are guides, not rules. Your kitchen, your rules.
Most importantly, I believe that anyone can cook. It's not about fancy techniques or expensive equipment. It's about caring enough to try, about feeding yourself and the people you love, about creating those small moments of magic that make ordinary days feel special.

Let's Cook Together
Every recipe I share has been made multiple times in my own kitchen. I've burned things, oversalted things, learned the hard way what works and what doesn't. And I bring all of that, the successes and the lessons, to you.
This isn't just my corner of the internet. It's ours. A place where we can share recipes, swap stories, ask questions, and celebrate the everyday magic of a home-cooked meal.
So whether you're here because you're hungry, because you're looking for comfort, or because you stumbled across this page by accident, I'm so glad you're here.
Let's make something delicious.
