Description

These Herby Rhodes Rolls are a delightful Thanksgiving favorite featuring frozen dinner rolls brushed with a fragrant garlic-herb butter made from rosemary, oregano, thyme, and fresh garlic. The rolls are allowed to thaw and rise before baking until golden brown, resulting in soft, aromatic, and flavorful dinner rolls perfect for any holiday or family meal.

Ingredients

Herb Butter

  • 1 cup salted butter (2 sticks), plus more for greasing
  • 1 tablespoon dried rosemary, crushed
  • 1 tablespoon dried oregano
  • 1 tablespoon dried thyme
  • 6 garlic cloves, minced

Rolls

  • 20 frozen dinner rolls (thaw, rise, and bake)
  • Flaky salt, for serving

Instructions

  1. Prepare Herb Butter: In a small saucepan, melt the butter over low heat. Add the crushed rosemary, oregano, thyme, and minced garlic to the butter and cook gently until the butter has fully melted and the herbs are fragrant, releasing their aroma. Remove from heat and transfer the mixture to a bowl to cool slightly.
  2. Prepare Baking Dish: Grease a 9x13 inch baking dish generously with butter or cooking spray to prevent the rolls from sticking during baking.
  3. Coat Rolls: Working with one frozen roll at a time, roll each in the warm garlic-herb butter ensuring it is well coated. Place each buttered roll in the prepared baking dish, spacing them about 1½ inches apart to allow room for rising.
  4. Let Rolls Rise: Allow the rolls to rise at room temperature for 4 to 5 hours or until they have doubled in size. This step is crucial for achieving soft, fluffy rolls.
  5. Preheat Oven: Once risen, preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) to prepare for baking.
  6. Bake Rolls: Bake the rolls in the preheated oven for about 20 minutes or until the tops are golden brown and the rolls are cooked through.
  7. Finish and Serve: Remove the rolls from the oven and optionally brush with any remaining garlic-herb butter. Sprinkle with flaky salt for added flavor and serve warm.

Notes

  • Make sure to grease the baking dish thoroughly to prevent sticking.
  • Allow enough time for the rolls to rise properly; rushing this step will affect texture.
  • You can substitute fresh herbs if preferred, adjusting quantities to taste.
  • If rolls are not doubling in size, a warm room or slightly covering with a damp towel can help.
  • Flaky salt adds a nice finishing touch but is optional.
  • For extra flavor, you can brush extra garlic-herb butter on the rolls immediately after baking.
