Description

This Rustic Salsa Cruda is a vibrant, fresh raw salsa blending the zest of tomatillos with garlic, serrano peppers, onion, and cilantro. It’s slightly chunky with a bright, tangy flavor perfect for serving with chips, tacos, or enchiladas and can be enjoyed chilled or at room temperature.

Ingredients

Ingredients

  • 12 oz tomatillos, husks removed and washed
  • 1 small white onion, peeled and quartered
  • 2 serrano peppers, roughly chopped
  • 6 cloves garlic
  • ¼ cup cilantro leaves
  • 1 tsp kosher salt
  • ¼ cup water

Instructions

  1. Prepare Ingredients: Remove the husks from the tomatillos and wash them thoroughly. Peel and quarter the white onion. Roughly chop the serrano peppers, peel the garlic cloves, and gather the cilantro leaves.
  2. Blend Ingredients: Place the tomatillos, onion, serrano peppers, garlic, and cilantro into a food processor. Blend until you reach your preferred consistency—slightly chunky is recommended so the salsa has a rustic texture.
  3. Adjust Consistency: If the salsa is too thick, add the ¼ cup of water gradually to thin it out to your liking.
  4. Season and Serve: Taste and season with kosher salt as needed. Serve the salsa cruda at room temperature or chilled alongside your favorite chips, tacos, enchiladas, or other dishes.

Notes

  • Use fresh, firm tomatillos for the best flavor and texture.
  • Adjust the number of serrano peppers to control spice level.
  • For a smoother salsa, blend longer until fully pureed.
  • Store leftover salsa in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
