Description
This vibrant and refreshing Pineapple Salsa combines sweet, tangy, and spicy flavors for a delightful twist on a classic Mexican dip. Perfect as a colorful appetizer or side dish, it balances juicy pineapple with fresh jalapeño, red onion, cilantro, and lime juice. The pineapple shell is used as a charming serving bowl, making the presentation as appealing as the taste.
Ingredients
Main Ingredients
- 3 cups fresh pineapple (half pineapple), diced
- 1 jalapeño, seeded and diced
- 1/2 medium red onion, diced
- 1/4 cup cilantro, chopped
- 1 lime, juiced
- Salt, to taste
- Black pepper, to taste
Instructions
- Prepare Pineapple Halves: Place the pineapple on its side and slice it lengthwise straight down the middle to create two symmetrical halves. Set one half aside to be used later as the serving bowl.
- Extract Pineapple Flesh: Take the other half and carefully cut around the edge, close to the shell, without piercing through. Score the inside in a grid pattern with vertical and horizontal cuts to form cubes. Scoop out the pineapple cubes using a spoon or knife.
- Prepare Serving Bowl: Using the reserved pineapple half, carefully scoop out the flesh in the same manner and set these cubes aside. Once hollowed out, pat the pineapple shell dry if it is too juicy to avoid excess liquid during serving.
- Dice Pineapple Cubes: Dice the scooped pineapple cubes into smaller pieces if preferred and transfer them into a large mixing bowl.
- Combine Ingredients: Add the diced jalapeño, red onion, chopped cilantro, fresh lime juice, and season with salt and black pepper to taste. Stir well to combine all flavors evenly.
- Marinate: Refrigerate the salsa for 30 minutes to allow flavors to meld together harmoniously.
- Serve: Stir the salsa once more before serving. Spoon it into the hollowed pineapple shell and enjoy with your favorite chips.
